Geographer. Advisor to President Woodrow Wilson for the Versailles Peace Conference of 1919; based on her work in establishing geography as a legitimate field, the University of Kentucky honored her by making her the first woman to receive an honorary degree. Charter member and president of the Association of American Geographers. Semple was the first woman to be placed in the president's position in any national academic organization ever in the United States.
