The middle name of Hutchins was discovered on a land patent, and is the maiden name of his mother, Hannah HUTCHINS Marsalis.
Descendant Thomas Wixon researched and recovered the Marsalis cemetery, preserving the history of Peter Hutchins Marsalis for long time to come. Mr. Wixon, and others, worked very hard to clean up and repair the cemetery, making many meaningful discoveries as they went.
Researcher Tempe Crosby wrote to Sharon Marsalis that Harmon/Harman's land was under Washington Rock which is in Plainfield, New Jersey and her research convinced her that our Peter H. Marsalis was born in or near Bound Brook, New Jersey. This was a correct observation by Mrs. Crosby. The will of Harman Marselisen leaves his Bound Brook property to his son John, and also names son Peter, wife Hannah, and brother in law Anthony Hutchins and brother Peter Marselis. (9 Dec 1746). Harman Marselisen was the grandfather of our Peter Hutchins Marsalis.
