Mrs. Anna C. Craig , 81, of 3006 Garfield Blvd., died yesterday morning at Avon Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Aug. 5, 1887, Mrs. Craig lived in Painesville for 29 years before coming to Lorain in 1920. She was the widow of Harold S. Craig, a retired Chief Sanatarian for the Lorain City health department, who died April 17.
Mrs. Craig was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Rosary and Altar Society, St. Mary's Ladies Aid Society and the National Council of Catholic Women. She also was an honorary life member of the American Legion Auxiliary of which she was also a past president.
A past chapeau of the Lorain County 8 and 40. Mrs. Craig was also a member of Navy Mother's Club. In 1959 she received a citation and plaque for 43 years of active service as an American Red Cross volunteer. She remained active in the Red Cross until her last illness.
Mrs. Craig was a house-mother at the Business and Professional Women's Club for five years. She was nominated twice for the Lorain Woman of the Year. She also gave many years of service to the American Legion Home in Lorain, preparing and serving banquets.
Mrs. Craig is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Patricia A. Nickerson, Marblehead, Mass.; two sons, Murray N., New York City and Paul S., Lorain; seven grandchildren; one brother R. Emmett Murray, Akron; and one sister, Mrs. Virginia Rule, Cleveland.
Friends may call at the Reidy-Scanland Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home, Tuesday morning at 9:30 followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m.
A Rosary service will be said for Mrs. Craig tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home by Our Lady of the Lake Council 4223, Knights of Columbus.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Anna was the daughter of Thomas W. Murray and Mary A. Claughsey.
