Amos D. (Buddy) Thigpen, 75, of Florence, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Greenview Funeral Home, followed by services at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with Brother Glenn Murks officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Cypress Inn, Tenn.

Mr. Thigpen served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He loved to drink coffee and talk at McCoy's BP and was an avid Braves fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Amos Thigpen, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Gilchrist Thigpen; a very special grandson, Eric Balentine and his wife, Jennifer; sons, Wade (Susan), Alan (Kim); daughter, Shelia Givens (Dennis); sister, Imogene Russell; brother-in-law, Bobby Gilchrist (Debbie); great-grandchildren, Jesse and Lindsay Balentine; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Pallbearers will be Lance Uhlman, Steven Balentine, Tony Quillen, Carter Reed, Mitch Clemmons and Chris Pigg. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Green and Dr. George Evans.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Holden and the Shoals Hospital ER and ICU staff for their loving care and gentle kindness.
