Roger Preston
Dies Suddenly
Roger Preston 62, of 1217 5th Ave., passed away at his home Sunday afternoon. He had been ill for the last three months.
He was born September 17, 1898, at Mason City, the son of James Franklin and Emma Telford Preston. The family moved to Grinnell where he graduated from Grinnell High School and Grinnell College.
On June 18, 1930, he was united in marriage with Ruth Fuller at Nevada, Iowa, and to this union were born one son and two daughters: Robert R. Preston of Des Moines; Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Parmley of Grinnell; and Miss Martha L. Preston of Grinnell. He also leaves three grandchildren, and two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Ralph Peebler of Fairfield; Mrs. Ima Sauerberg of Clear Lake; and Randall J. Preston of Miami, Florida.
Mr. Preston had been principal at Rockwell City High School, and in 1933, moved to Grinnell where he owned and operated the Preston Photography Studio for many years. Mr. Preston was a member of the Masonic lodge in Grinnell and the Congregational Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on Dec 19th 1960, and by both parents.
Memorial services for Mr. Roger Lee Preston will be held at 1:300 pm, Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert D. Dewey, minister of the Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by members of Hermon Lodge No. 273, of Grinnell
