MRS. JOHN A. MAYO, 86, DIES AT HOME IN CLIFTON HILL
Mrs. John A. Mayo, 86, died at 11 o'clock this morning at her home in Clifton Hill. She had been seriously ill for the past week.
Mrs. Mayo was the former Sarah Martha Alexander, daughter of the late Lee and Nancy Alexander. She was born at Kirksville July 16, 1853, one of eleven children, of whom four survive her.
Early in life she moved to Eldad community in Randolph County, near Thomas Hill. Following her marriage to Joseph Clinton Patton in 1870 she moved to Clifton Hill. They were the parents of two children, Robert Lee Patton and Mary Maud Patton, now Mrs. C. J. Patton, both of Clifton Hill. Mr. Patton died January 19, 1906.
She was married again June 7, 1911, to John Allen Mayo of Clifton Hill. Mr. Mayo died October 19, 1931.
Besides the two children she is survived by a brother, John Alexander, and three sisters, Mrs. R. T. McElhiney, Miss Nan Alexander and Miss Dora Alexander, all of Brookfield; four grandchildren, Mrs. Robert Taylor, Armstrong, Edwin Patton, Huntsville, Miss Mary Elizabeth Patton and Joe T. Patton, both of Clifton Hill; six great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Palmer of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Clifton Hill Baptist Church, by the Rev. E. John Myers, assisted by the Rev. L. L. Loy, Methodist minister. Burial will be in the Fort Henry Cemetery.
