U.S. Congressman. He attended Colgate University, graduated from Union University Department of Law in 1926, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Troy, New York. He served as assistant U.S. Attorney, northern district of New York (1927-30), was chairman of the Rensselaer County Republican Committee (1938-43) and director of the Union National Bank and Niagara Mohawk Power Company. In 1943 he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress and to the next eight succeeding Congresses, serving until 1961. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
