Myrtle was born on April 27, 1908 on a farm northwest of Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Frank A. and Ethel Stone Bender. She married Albert Wittmer on March 4, 1943 in Chico, California. He died on December 21, 1981 in Emporia, Kansas.
Survivors include: two sons, Loren Wittmer and wife Jeannene of Wichita, Kansas, and Roger Wittmer and wife Maria Teresa of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Dr. Jason Wittmer of Des Moines, Iowa, Dr. Meredith Crenshaw of Des Moines, Iowa, Louis Wittmer of Chicago, Illinois, and Daniel Wittmer of Las Vegas, Nevada; and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Myrtle spent most her life in Lyon County, and worked twenty-five plus years at Red X in Emporia. She moved to Wichita in 2009 to be near her family.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 9, 2011, at the Hillside Cemetery, Toledo, Kansas. The service will be conducted by Chaplain Bill Eichelberger of Good Shepherd Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. Interment will follow the service. The visitation will be Sunday evening, May 8, 2011, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
