MARQUIS
Mamie Marquis, daughter of Wesley and Eva McKnight, was born January 12, 1896, in Liberty Township, Clarke County, Ia. She departed this life, January 19, 1978, at Pauline's Rest Home, Corydon, Ia., at the age of 82 years and 7 days.
On September 10, 1916, she was united in marriage to Oscar Marquis. Their first home was on a farm in Clarke County, then later moved near Chariton in 1942.
To this union two daughters: Mrs. Glida Palmer of Chariton and Mrs. Betty Johnson of Russell.
At an early age, Mamie accepted Christ as her Saviour. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chariton.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Oscar, her parents and a sister, Edith Smith.
Those left to mourn her passing are: Glida Palmer and husband, Cleo; Betty Johnson and husband, Edwin; five grandchildren: Gary Palmer and wife, Camelia, of Longview, Tex., Marjorie McDicken and husband, Jerry, of Duffield, Va., Marilyn Palmer of Chariton, Martha Johnson of Ankeny, and Duane Johnson of Russell; two great-grandchildren: James and Jill Palmer; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Houtz of Burlington and Velma Weakland of Chariton; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
