The body of William W. Gowen, age 39, who was drowned shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday while fishing in the Snake River near Bonanza Bar Ranch where Fall Creek enters the Snake River, 20 miles west of American Falls was recovered at 9:30 a.m. today.
The body was about 60 feet from the shore. He was fishing with two others from a small boat when it started to sink and the three men took to the water, striking out for shore. Gowen was seen to sink about 60 feet from the shore near where the body was found.
He was sales and plant manager of the Challenger Manufacturing Company, the concern engaged in the manufacture of automobile parts and fenders. He was a partner of Howard Albee of Portneuf Park.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
The body was taken to Pocatello and will be sent to Amesbury for burial.
