In memory of James Emott who died April 7, 1850 after a long, useful and honourable life in which he attained the highest rank as a lawyer and filled public offices of trust and consequence on the bench of this state and in the legislatures of the state and nation with conspicuous learning, ability and fidelity. He professed the faith of the gospel in the communion of the Protestant Episcopal church for whose promotion and welfare his labours were earnestly given in her diocesan and general councils and in all her concerns. His life testified to the sincerity of his character and afforded an example of a truly dignified and virtuous man.
