Musician. Raised in Bainbridge Island, Washington, he discovered rock music via the big theatrical arena shows of the 1970s. At the age of 14, he joined the band Malfunkshun, which performed in makeup and outrageous clothes. In 1988, with other members, he reformed the group as lead singer and the lineup was re-christened as the Seattle based rock band Mother Love Bone. The group quickly built up a loyal local following, was signed by Polygram in 1989 and released the six-track album "Shine". By September of 1989, the band was on a nation wide tour when Wood had developed a drug problem and was admitted to rehab center, where spent the last months of the year. Wood with the band started 1990 by playing a few shows around Seattle as they waited for the projected springtime release of their next album. On March 13, 1990, he was found comatose in his apartment and he was placed on life support, but died three days later.
