Kalama left his wife, family, and friends at the age of 63. He was a well known restaurateur and the proud owner of Nicola's. He sponsored charity events to benefit Children's Hospital, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the Poverello House. After retiring from the restaurant industry, he focused his energy on helping youth needing services with the County of Fresno, Children & Family Services.
Kalama cherished time spent with family, friends, and especially his wife. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Football and cards were his passion. No one who knew him well was ever surprised when he hopped on a plane to Las Vegas at the spur of the moment.
Kalama was preceded in death by his father, Nolan Mitchell. He is survived by Lisa, his loving wife of 20 years; his mother, Evelyn Mitchell; sister, Pamela James and her husband Roger; and a large family; many friends who loved him dearly, and his canine girlfriend, Foxy Lady.
