Z.T. was the son of Absolom Adams and Elizabeth Reid. He lived and worked as a farmer. Z.T. married first Rebecca Catherine Coleman, a daughter of W.A. Coleman and Sarah Ann Barnes, on September 6, 1864. Six children were born to them:

William M. born Nov. 14., 1865
Henry T., born Jan. 16, 1868, a teacher in Texas
David N., born July 11, 1869
Gilbert E., born Oct. 30, 1872
Z. T, born Nov. 22, 1876
Bessie, born Feb. 10, 1884

After the death of Catherine, he married Rosa Brown on May 30, 1912. All of the children are from his first wife. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Z. T. Adams, Sr., died at his home in Temple Tuesday morning about 7 o'clock after a lingering illness of several weeks. He was one of our oldest and most highly respected citizens, being about seventy-one years old. His funeral will be preached today (Wednesday) at the Baptist church at 11 o'clock by Rev. W. R. Barrow, after which his remains will be deposited at the old Asbury cemetery near Temple.
