SPINDALE -- Dr. Mitchell, 90, died November 22, 2003. Dr. Mitchell was active in many areas of Spindale United Methodist Church and The Local Community. He was a graduate of University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and had a medical degree from Washington University. He was a Veteran of the US Army Medical Corps WWII.
He was a retired physician serving eh Rutherford County area for 60 years. Survivors include sons, John Mitchell of Rutherfordton, NC, T. Eugene Mitchell of Spindale, NC, Landis P. Mitchell, III of Lake Lure, NC and grandsons, Matthew Garrett Mitchell of Rock HIll, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jane Campbell Mithcell and parents, Landis Patterson Mitchell, Sr. & Mary Garrett Mitchell. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Crowe's Mortuary. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Spindale United Methodist Church with burial at Sunset Memorial Park. Rev. Gerald Davis, Rev. Joe Fulk and Rev. W.T. Medlin will officiate. Dr. Mitchell will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spindale United Methodist Church, PO Box 241 Spindale, NC 28160. Crowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
