Herman W. Corbett, age 83, of Butler, PA formerly of Petrolia, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice of Butler surrounded by his family.

He was born on the 26th of April, 1928 in Butler, PA, the son of Frank and Grace (Roudebush) Corbett.

Herman was raised and lived in Petrolia most of his life. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Herman was employed with Sonneborn Inc. in Petrolia as a supervisor for 44 years prior to his retirement in 1990.

Herman was an avid outdoorsman and was never happier than when hunting or fishing. Among his circle of family and friends he was known for his storytelling, a great sense of humor and endless supply of jokes. Herman adored his wife, Peg. They were inseparable, whether spending winters in Arizona the past 16 years or enjoying the time together at the dog races or casino trips with friends. Herman was a strong and compassionate man who guided his family through the ups and downs of life with kindness, humor and intelligence. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all.

Herman leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Margaret "Peg" (Barnhart) Corbett, whom he shared nearly 25 years of marriage; his two sons, Herman W. Corbett II of Port St. Lucie, FL and Thomas M. Corbett and his wife Nancy of Big Pine Keys, FL; two stepsons, Jeffrey R. Barnhart and his wife, Sandy of Chicora and Bruce L. Barnhart and his wife Sharon of West Sunbury; his daughter, Frankie Hutchison and her husband Harold "Frank" of Butler; his stepdaughter, Diana "Dee" Barnhart and her companion Keith Say of Chicora; three grandchildren, David Gifford and his wife Sandy of Chicora, Trisha Slaughter and her husband Shane of South Carolina, and Jennifer Corbett of Virginia; five step-grandchildren, Michael Barnhart and his wife Jamie of Butler, Jeremiah and Zane Barnhart, both of Chicora, and Chelsea and Jared Say of Chicora; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Hunter Gifford and Matthew and Kaleigh Slaughter; and one step-great grandchild, Morgan Barnhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary Ellen Corbett; two brothers, Frank and Orville Corbett; and a grandchild, Chris Corbett.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4PM and 7-9PM on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 102 Argyle Street, Petrolia where funeral services will be held at 11AM, Friday, May 6, 2011 with the Reverend Ron Roudebush officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
