James B. Rothrock was the second of five known children of Roswell R. Rothrock (1831-1897) and Catherine Mohney Rothrock (1835-1916), who married 04 Aug 1853 at New Bethlehem, Clarion County, Pennsylvania.

James married Ella E. Shellenberger (1854-1939) on 25 Dec 1879 at Evandale, Snyder County, Pennsylvania. James and Ella were the parents of three known children, namely:

1. Eva Mae Rothrock Filson (1880-1920)
2. Mary C. Rothrock Harris (1884-1969)
3. Thomas Roswell Rothrock (1892-1893)
