SHARPSVILLE – Viola R. Balser, 95, Sharpsville passed away at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.
Born Aug. 2, 1915 near Windfall, she was the daughter of Howard H. and Ethel L. (Davis) Hannah.
On Sept. 29, 1934 in Howard County, she married Cleo D. Balser. He preceded her in death.
She was a head cook for Tri-Central Schools and was owner and cook at "Viola's" Restaurant in Sharpsville for several years.
She was a member of the Ladies Lions Club and Sharpsville Extension Homemakers Club and attended Beaulah Land Church in Sharpsville.
She enjoyed cooking.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary and Stan Woodard of Sharpsville and Dixie and Hal Elkin of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, William H. Balser of Sharpsville; a brother, Joseph E. Hannah of Rohrersville, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Perry Baker; a sister, Evelyn Cage; and one grandchild.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at Boyer Funeral Home in Sharpsville. Pastor Dan Coomer will officiate. Burial will be in Sharpsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
