I met Robert in the 6th grade when we both started going to Junior High School. We became fast friends. He was in a wheelchair and I never saw him out of the wheelchair. We went through Junior High School, High School, and community college together. Approximately 13 months before he died, we got to talking between classes at El Camino College. He told me that people with Muscular Dystrophy rarely lived to be past 20 years old. He died 1 month and 1 day before his 22nd birthday. At his funeral, his brother said that had Robert been able to stand up, he would have been 6'4" tall. I had never thought of him that way. To me, he was just a good person and I never even thought of how tall he may have been.
