He was the oldest son of Orville H. Wismer and Ella L. Dunlap Wismer; he was drafted into World War Two and drowned during practice amphibious landings in Salerno Bay, Italy during practice amphibious landings before the invasion of Anzio, Italy. His body was never recovered and identified.
