EDNA HARRISON BROOKS, 97, was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born August 25, 1913 in Collierville, TN and passed away May 3, 2011 in Collierville, TN, surrounded by her family and a group of loving and caring nurses. She was married to James M. Brooks for over 50 years, until his death in 1981. They both enjoyed traveling both before and after his retirement. They especially liked Australia and New Zealand, having visited there several times. Edna was a member of the Highland Street Church of Christ, having obeyed the gospel in 1931 when the church was known as the Normal Church of Christ. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, John W. Harrison and Lela Collins Harrison. She was also predeceased by two siblings who died in infancy, sister, Ellen and brother, Milton, and an adult sister, Mildred Bell. She leaves four children, Joe M. Brooks and wife, Shirley, of Germantown, TN, Linda Brooks O'Mahoney and husband, Terry, of Dallas, TX, Philip L. Brooks and wife, Sukey, of Sandestin, FL, and James W. Brooks, of Fort Lauderdale, FL. She leaves grandchildren, John Brooks, Natalie Hitt, Ted Brooks, Tim O'Mahoney, Holly Spee and Meghan Walsh, David Brooks, Beth Hussey, Todd Brooks, Matt Brooks and seventeen great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Trinity Hospice, 6141 Walnut Grove, Memphis, TN 38120; Memphis School of Preaching, in care of Forest Hill Church of Christ, 3950 Forest Hill-Irene Rd., Memphis, TN 38125; or St. Jude Children's Hospital. Services will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Friday, May 6, with visitation beginning at Noon. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
