Effie Mengel
Effie McBride Mengel, age 69, passed away January 22, 1968, at her home at 207 Commerical Street, La Porte City, of a heart attack.
She was born at La Porte City on June 22, 1898, the daughter of Emery and Ida Rodman McBride. She was raised in the La Porte City community and lived in Waterloo until her marriage September 28, 1933 at Nashua, to George C. Mengel. They farmed until retirement 7 years ago when they moved to La Porte City.
She was a member of the Esther Circle of the E.U.B. Church, W.S.W.S. Society and Lotus Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother Clifford McBride, La Porte City; and three sisters, Mrs. Iliff Fordyce, Little Falls, Minn.; Mrs. Leo Baldwin, Vinton; and Mrs. Leo Neufield, Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services were held January 25, 1968 at 2:00 p.m. at the E.U.B. Church with the Rev. John McFarland officiating. Pallbearers were Loren Dunkelberger, Ralph Dunkleberger, Elmer Klar, and Junior McBride, all of La Porte City, Chris Christensen, Cedar Falls, and Keith Ohrt, Vinton.
Burial was at Westview Cemetery.
