Joseph Hilleary White, of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002.

Joe was born June 20, 1919, in Newark, NJ, son of the late Roger and Jenny [Westesson] White.

He lived in Maplewood, NJ. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1942 and immediately joined the US Navy as a Navy Seal. Mr. White retired from Formica in 1981 where he worked for 32 years. He was a long-standing member of St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, and was a lay reader and lay Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Civitan Club and the Wilmington Senior Men's Club.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sara "Chotty" Allen White; and their children, Hilleary White of Charlotte, NC, Roger White of Bridgewater, VA, and Connie White of Atlanta, GA. His siter, Ann White, preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2002 at St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church by the Rev. Richard Elliott.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at their home, 6709 Cable Car Lane, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403, the American Diabetes Association, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, Two Hannover Square, Ste. 1600, Raleigh, NC 27601, or a charity of one's choice.
