Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Hugh C. and Ruby Browning Wood.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She loved square dancing, crossword puzzles, writing and sharing poetry with others, and was an avid reader. She was a loving mother, and was known by her grandchildren as "Laine", and by her great grandchildren as "Big E".
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Jackson Cathey, and her husband, David, of Fayetteville, Ga.; two sons, Robert L. Jackson, and his wife, Carolyn Travis Jackson, of Greenville, Ray Jackson, and his wife, Millie, of Greenville; four sisters, Mildred Wood, Catherine Rice, Frances Young, and Nancy Pruitt, all of Greenville; a brother, Hugh Wood, of Greenville; four grandchildren, Lee Jackson Duncan, Bobby Jackson, Joe Jackson, and Travis Jackson; two stepgrandchildren, Kelli Anderson and Matt Cathey; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Garrett Jackson, of Greenville. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Wood; and several half brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held today, Aug. 17, 2004, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Graceland West Cemetery.
