He was a son of Jonathan Peake, Sr. and Rachel Marshall. He was probably born on their farm in East Chatham, Columbia County, New York. Ira married Martha Morgan on Feb. 21, 1808 at Chathem, Columbia County, New York and they had four sons and eight daughters. Their oldest child was Chauncey Hawley Peake born in 1809 and their youngest child was John Peake, born in 1832. The first William died as an infant and later William Irving Peake was born in 1817 (died in Manhattan in 1883). Ira had the great unhappiness of seeing many of his daughters die quite young. Two daughters who lived a relatively long time ran a Girls' School on Warren Street in Hudson, New York and only one daughter married to leave descendants. She was Helen Peake (my ancestor) who married, at age 35, Joseph Steevens Farrand as his second wife. Helen had the twins (not identical) William Peake Farrand and Frank Farrand (my grandfather), Arthur Farrand, Caroline Louise Farrand, and Helen Peake (Nellie) Farrand.
