William J. "Bill" Giesen was born August 31, 1931 in Harper, Kansas, son of Henry Jake and Frances Katherine (Kraus) Giesen.

Bill attended Harper Grade school, and graduated from Harper High School in May of 1951. He attended Hutchison Community College on a football scholarship from August 1951 until he was drafted to the United States Army, serving his country honorably in the Korean War from November 27, 1951 to November 10, 1953.

On February 6, 1956, Bill was united in marriage with Marilyn Cook at the Christian Church in Anthony, Kansas. This union was blessed with five sons: William K., Brad D., twins, Ronald J. and Richard W., and Scott A.

Bill worked as a farm manager for Southern Kansas Produce for 26 years then worked for the City of Anthony for 15 years before retiring. Bill was on the Anthony Fire Department for 26 years, also serving on the Anthony Board of Recreation Commission. He was a member of the Anthony Christian Church, where he served as Deacon. He was active in Boy Scouts, serving as Scout and Cub Master. He belonged to the VFW Jeff Long Post #11449 of Harper. He was formerly a member of the Anthony Lions Club.

On May 4, 2011, Bill passed away at the Harper Hospital surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 infant brothers: Johnny and twins, Marlin and Marvin; brothers, Julius and Lloyd; and sisters: Betty Warden, Agnes Whitney and Wilma Copeland. He also meets in Heaven his granddaughter, Leah Katherine Giesen.

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn of Anthony; mother in law Alpha Cook; sons: William K. Giesen and wife, Janet of Harper, Brad D. Giesen and wife, Pam of Anthony, Ronald J. Giesen and wife, Bonny of Anthony, Richard W. Giesen and wife, Joni of Coffeyville and Scott A. Giesen and wife, Diann of Douglass and Great Nephew Allen Warden; 13 grandchildren: Russell Giesen, Leslie Gerber and husband, Joel, Beth Zahradnik and husband, JC, Jessica Giesen and companion, Tray, Jennifer Lewallen and husband, Barry, Bryan Giesen and companion Brianna, Brogan Giesen, Abigail Giesen, Carli Giesen, Madison Giesen, Lyndi Jo Giesen, Kattie Giesen and Preston Giesen and fiancé, Sami; and 5 great grandchildren: Jayvyn, Cora Belle, Abram, Camille and Twyla; many special nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
