CLAY COUNTY PIONEER DIES.
End to Alfred Spencer Broadhurst at 85 Years.
Alfred Spencer Broadhurst, a retired farmer and minister, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. Couch, near De Soto, Kas. Mr. Broadhurst was born in Tennessee in 1828 and moved to Clay County with his parents, when he was 5 years old. They located near Barry, Mo.
Mr. Broadhurst lived in Clay County the greater part of his life, and until a few years ago had owned a farm in the county. For a number of years he acted as a circuit preacher and supplied the pulpits of neighboring churches. He never was ordained as a minister. He served in the Civil War under Gen. Sterling Price. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Jane Faubion in 1850. Mr. and Mrs. Broadhurst celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary this year. Mrs. Broadhurst was 81 years old this year, and the death of her husband is the first to occur in his family of eleven.
Mr. Broadhurst had been making his home for some years with his son, C. F. Broadhurst, 3715 Prospect Avenue. Besides the widow, the following children survive: W. E. Broadhurst of Crystal City, Tex.; J. W. Broadhurst and J. M. Broadhurst, both of the Kansas side; R. R. Broadhurst, T. A. Broadhurst, C. F. Broadhurst, L. C. Broadhurst and C. D. Broadhurst, all of this city, and Mrs. E. Couch of DeSoto, Kas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home, 3715 Prospect Avenue. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
