Myrtle Nygaard, age 93, a long-time resident of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Edmore, ND, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.

Myrtle was born March 24, 1917 in Adams, ND, to Fredrick and Pernille Dahlgren. She grew up in the Fairdale/Adams area and married the love of her life, Raymond Nygaard, on June 27, 1942. Myrtle and Raymond raised their family and farmed near Edmore before retiring and moving to Devils Lake in 1981.

Myrtle and Raymond were active in both the Edmore and Devils Lake communities. Myrtle sold Avon in the Edmore community for many years, was a life-time member of the Women's VFW Auxiliary, and a long-time member of the Rebecca's Lodge in Devils Lake.

Myrtle is survived by her 6 children, Mardyce (Rob) Hill of Boise, ID, Roger (Carmen) Nygaard of Edmore, Richard (Tae Sun) Nygaard of Edmore, Ronald (Linda) Nygaard of Wahpeton, ND, Patty (Jerry) Stiburek of Boise, ID, and Randy Nygaard of Crary, ND; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Albin Dahlgren of Silver Lake, MN and John Dahlgren of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; a daughter, Cheryl Joy; a son, Robert James; a grandson, Kenneth Engie; her parents, Fred and Nellie; a sister, Doris; and 3 brothers, Palmer, Lawrence, and Myron.

Myrtle's Funeral Service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds. The organist will be Lois Myrvik and the soloist will be Stacey Nygaard.

Interment will be in the spring at St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Fairdale, ND. The casketbearers will be all of Myrtle's grandsons. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
