Obituary:

Byron Lamar Tankersley, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Sunday, May 1, at the age of 83. Byron was born in Abilene, Texas on October 10, 1927 to Samuel Carl Tankersley and Carrie Ladonia Fortson Tankersley. After graduating from high school. Lamar served his country in the Army Air Corp serving from December 4, 1945 until March 7, 1949. During this time he was in special services as a cryptographer. He was stationed in Texas, Kansas and England. On August 19, 1950 Lamar married Mary Margaret Trentham in Abilene, Texas.

Lamar attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and North Texas University where he graduated with a degree in accounting and a minor in math. During his career as an accountant he worked for Lybrand, Ross Brothers and Montgomery, a national accounting firm, in internal audit and budget control for Collins Radio, as comptroller for Owens Sausage, business office manager for Le Tourneau University and financial aid director for Kilgore College. Lamar was know by his family and those he worked with to be kind and fair. After retiring, Lamar and Margaret moved to Fredericksburg.

Lamar is survived by his wife Margaret Tankersley of Fredericksburg, two sons David Lamar Tankersley and wife Cindy of Lufkin, Dr. Russell Kent Tankersley of Dallas, a daughter Amy Lee Margaret Bryant and husband Rob, 8 grandchildren Jared Trent Tankersley, Katie LeAnne Tankersley, Jennifer Elizabeth Tankersley, Liam Joseph Shafton Tankersley, Colin Byron Trentham Tankersley, Declan Andrew Davis TankersleyHenry Barton Bryant and Walter Byron Bryant. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Kelly of Albuquerque, NM and sisters-in-law Jean Owen, Betty Oliver and Helen Campbell. Lamar was preceded in death by a daughter Angie Maria Tankersley, two brothers Carl Steven Morris Tankersley and Vance Tankersley and a sister Paulella Luttrell.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Hierholzer officiating. Interment with military hors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are David Tankersley, Russell Tankersley, Trent Tankersley, Liam Tankersley, Hank Bryant, Rob Bryant, Bud Mayo and Don Funderburke. Honorary pallbearers are Colin Tankersley, Walt Bryant and Declan Tankersley

Memorials in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice in the Pines.
