An american silent film actress, producer and director. She was the first woman to direct a full lenght film called " The Merchant of Venice" in 1914.
In 1916 was the highest paid director, she formed her own company "Lois Weber Productions"
In 1920 she lost her company had two failed marriages and a nervous breakdown. She died penniless at age 58. She had no children.

Lois Weber, 56, a star-maker and one of filmdom's few feminine directors, died last night after a long illness.
A singer and concert pianist who started her career in Pittsburgh she turned to pictures in their infancy and helped elevate Ann Steward, Mildred Harris, Billie Dove and Clair Widsor to stardom. Ill with a stomach ailment for years, she had retired from film work.
