Mrs. Hazel Adelle Luce Blackmon, age 95, of Irving, formerly of Palestine, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 in the Hearthstone Assisted Living Facility in Irving. Mrs. Blackmon was born January 18, 1916 in Houston County, Texas and was living in Irving, previously living in Palestine. She was a retired railroad wife (that is a lot like being a military wife) and had retired from Montgomery Wards in Houston. She was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Auxiliary and Believers in Christ Church in Palestine.
Survivors include daughters, Yvonne Blackmon and Neva Rae Blackmon; son, Sherril Blackmon and wife, Faye;
Preceded in death by husband, Samuel Floyed Blackmon, infant daughter and parents, John R. and Candis Ellen (Knox) Luce .
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Adelle Luce Blackmon will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the McCarter Cemetery with Harold Fox officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers are W. R. (Butch) Blackmon, Roye L. Blackmon, John Ledbetter, James Buzbee, Johnnie Campbell,Daniel O'Bannon and Clinton Blackmon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Believers in Christ Building Fund, 2104 State Hwy 155, Palestine, TX 75803.
