U.S. Congressman. Born in Edgerton, Missouri, he graduated from Christian Brothers College, in 1909, deputy circuit clerk of Buchanan County, (1911-17), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1916 and commenced to practice law in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was an active player on the St. Joseph baseball team and was City Counselor of St. Joseph, (1926-30). In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1943. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, serving (1943-65). He died at age 84 in Kansas City, Missouri.
