Frank was the youngest child of Andrew and Margaret Schultz. As a young man he was a professional wrestler for awhile. (It was a much more respectable profession in those days.) He served in the US Army during the First World War, eventually becoming MIA in 1918.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
