Graveside Service to Be Sunday for W.R. [H.R.] Portmann
Relatives here have received word of the death of W.R.[Harold Reginald]
Portmann of Soldiers Grove, Wisc., brother-in-law of Mrs. W.R. Anderson, Olaf
Myhre and Oscar Myhre Sr., all of this city. Mr. Portmann, who died at the
Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisc., was the husband of the former Gertrude
Myhre of Estherville.
Funeral services for Mr. Portmann were held this morning at Soldiers Grove and
the body is being brought here, expected to arrive sometime late today at the
Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home.
Services are to be held here tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church,
where Mr. Portmann's body will lie in state from noon until time of the
services. Burial is to be in the Lutheran cemetery north of the city.
Mr. Portmann is survived by his wife, a son, Edward, at home, and a daughter,
Mrs. M.C. Hoel of Blooming Prairie, Minn., and three grandchildren. (Estherville

Harold R. Portmann was born in Jackson, Minn., on Oct. 13, 1891.
He received his education at Currie, Minn., after which he attended St. Olaf
College, Northfield, Minn. After spending six years in the Marines during World
War I, he returned to Currie where he was associated with his father in the
newspaper business. He was appointed postmaster at Currie and served 10 years.
On July 16, 1927, he was married to Gertrude Myher at Estherville.
In 1937 he purchased the newspaper at Soldiers Grove, Wis., of which he has been
editor and publisher until his death. He passed away on Sept. 3 at the Veterans
hospital, Madison, Wis.
He was a member of the Lutheran church, American Legion, various clubs and was
active in community affairs.
He is survived by his wife, a son Edward at home and a daughter Janice (Mrs.
M.C. Hoel) of Blooming Prairie, Minn., and three granddaughters, Kristi, Juli
and Mari. One sister, Mrs. Frank Belina, Grand Junction, Colo., three brothers,
Robert of McAllen, Tex., Donald of Roseville, Cal., Victor of Lexington, Ky.,
and his mother at Slayton, Minn., also survive.
He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. W.R. Anderson, Oscar and Olaf Myhre,
Estherville.
Pallbearers were six nephews, Wayne Crim, Rodney Tredway, Lester Kaltved
[Kaltvedt], Oscar Myhre Jr., Stanley Myher and Marvin Myhre.
