George Scott was born in Shelby County, Ohio to Absalom and Eleanor (Iiams) Scott. He was raised on a farm and continued farming in Barber County when he moved from Ohio around 1890. He enlisted and served in the US Union Army during the Civil War in the 54th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. George was married to Amanda E Elliott on Nov 29th, 1868 in Shelby County, OH. George and Amanda were the parents of three daughters: Minnie (1873-1941); Effie (1876-1881); Edith (1881-1882) and three sons: Samuel (1875-1951); Absalom (1883-1944); and George (1885-1945). The two young daughters they lost before the family left Ohio are linked to this Memorial.
