Mrs. Ruth E. Tjaden, 86, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Monday evening, Nov. 24, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-South Campus, Clinton, Iowa.

Ruth Elizabeth Tjaden was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Alfred and Goldie (DeWitt) Borman.

Following her graduation from West High School in Madison, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and was a sorority sister at the Nu Chapter of Chi Omega.

Ruth was united in marriage to Dale S. Tjaden on Feb. 14, 1942, in Salinas, Calif. Following World War II the couple moved to DeWitt. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1995.

She was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star, of which she served as Worthy Matron, and a member of American Legion Auxillary, of which she served as president in 1963 and 1964. Ruth was an Avon Representative for 10 years. She loved her rose garden, bird watching and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
