MARTHA A. MILLEGAN PASSES AT RIPE AGE
ONE OF OLDEST RESIDENTS OF HELENA AND MONTANA IS TAKEN LAST NIGHTCAME HERE IN YEAR 1864

Pioneer of Pioneers Answers Final Call After an Eventful Life in Old and New Montana – Nine Children Survive Her.

The angel of death called Martha A. Millegan, widow of the late Wallace Millegan, last evening at 7:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Morrison, 925 Eighth
avenue. Mrs. Millegan was 85 years of age and probably the oldest resident of the state at the time of her passing.

Her husband preceded her across the great divide by three years.

Mrs. Millegan was a pioneer of pioneers. She came to Montana with her husband in June, 1864, settling at Bannack, the then thriving mining camp of the west. The trip was made across the plains in a covered wagon. The couple left Iowa in April of that year, landing at the Placer mining camp in June.

Moved Here
Mr. and Mrs. Millegan later moved to this valley, being one of the first families to establish a residence here and operate a ranch. Here they made their home for 61 years.
Mrs. Millegan was 85 years of age at the time of her death. She has been seriously ill since last July, when she suffered a stroke.

Mrs. Millegan is survived by the following sons and daughters: W.L. Millegan, R.E. Millegan, J.R. Millegan, T.W. Millegan, Mrs. C. M. Evans and Mrs. Charles Morrison, all of Helena; and Miss Willis Smith of Townsend, Mrs. R.B. McCollm of Cascade, and Mrs. D.H. Little of Seattle.

Funeral arrangements are pending workd from relatives outside the city.
