US Congressman. He taught school at Springfield, Minnesota, (1886-90), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1891 and commenced to practice law in Lamberton, Minnesota. He was prosecuting attorney of Redwood County, (1895-1903), a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives (1903-07), a member of the Minnesota State Senate (1907-15) and judge of the ninth judicial district of Minnesota, (1919-20). In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and also engaged in agricultural pursuits until his retirement.
