Jane Coker's uncle was John "Jack" Coker, who fought at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 and and was rewarded with a large tract of land outside San Antonio. Jane's father Joseph Coker and another uncle, James Coker, brought their families from South Carolina in order to help their brother John settle the land. Jane was a child when the family traveled south in a covered wagon. James only travelled as far as Cherokee County, where he settled, but Joseph traveled onward and helped John establish the Coker Settlement, where Coker Cemetery is located. John was a lifelong bachelor and he left the land to his two brothers and their descendants. Jane later married Amos Dickens Jones and their descendants still live in San Antonio today.
