Obituary - Joseph Platt Callister died in a Salt Lake hospital September 3rd following an attack of appendicitis. He was born at Oak City March 7, 1879, the son of Thomas Callister who was born in the Isle of Man and Carlie E. Lyman. His mother died when Joseph was a baby and his grandmother Lyman took him until she died at which time he was seven years of age. Joseph A. Lyman took the boy and raised him to manhood.

Joseph P. Callister was one of the first settlers of Delta. In church affairs he held the office of Superintendent of Sunday School of the YMMIA, a teacher in the Sunday School, in the Mutual, was a ward clerk and one the seventies.

He is survived by his wife Margaret C. Callister and two sons Lathel and Anthony and two daughters Carlie and LaDaen. Also by the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Susan C. Lyman, Salt Lake; Mrs. Kate Hatton, Fillmore; Mrs. Sadie Pratt, Portland; Porter, Russell, John and Walter Callister all of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services were held in Delta Sunday September 6th. The speakers were President T. Clark Callister of Fillmore, Bishop Hans Boag of Mayfield, President Joseph T. Finlinson, D. Leo Lyman and Bishop Lorenzo H. Christensen. The singing was by the Third Ward Choir. Interment was held in Oak City and the grave dedicated by Bishop Frederick Crook of Heber City.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the sorrowing family. Joseph P. Callister was a man of sterling worth, a kind father and a loving husband. His influence was always for the best and he lived sincerely and wholly.
