US Congressman. Born in Portland, Maine, he graduated from Bowdoin College. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to practice as an attorney in 1817. Elected as an Anti-Jacksonian Party member to represent Ohio's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1835 to 1837. He declined to become a candidate for renomination in 1836 and resumed his law profession in Cincinnati. Storer was the Presidential elector from Ohio on the Henry Clay ticket in 1844 and was known as a fiery and enthusiastic orator. Future U.S. President, Benjamin Harrison, was employed as a clerk in his law office. In 1854, he was appointed as Judge of the Superior Court of Cincinnati and served in that capacity for eighteen years until his resignation in 1872. He resumed his law profession and became partners with his son, Bellamy Storer II, who later became a Congressman and U.S. Diplomat. While presiding as Judge, he was also a professor at the Cincinnati Law School and a member of the Ohio Board of Trustees. During the Civil War, he organized the "Storer Rifles" as Cincinnati's Home Guard for protection of the city and to encourage men to enlist. They were comprised mostly of wealthy men and veterans, advanced in their years, and were splendidly equipped and outfitted at their own expense. In the later years of the war, Storer was a member of the Cincinnati Branch of the U.S. Sanitary Commission. When he was a young man, he was a member of a religious band, "Flying Artillery", and toured with them to promote revivals. He died in Cincinnati in 1875 when he was 79 years old.
