December 31, 1868, Tapley remarried the widow Rebecca Emeline McClusky Childress.
Children listed in the 1870 census are from Rebecca's first marriage William Childress, born 1852, Alfred Childress, born 1855, James Childress, born 1859 and Tapley's daughter Eliza White born 1860.
Tapley B White is missing from the 1880 census.
