Almus D. Cole
Almus D. Cole, 85, of Easy St. died in a local nursing center early Friday morning, Dec. 1, after an extended illness.
The son of the late Robert H. and Parilee Andrews Cole, he was born Sept. 7, 1893, in Stephens County and had resided here his entire life. Mr. Cole was a veteran of World War I, having served with The U.S. Army.
He was a member of the local post of the American Legion, the Zebulon Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Cole was employed by Coats and Clark in Toccoa.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Verner Cole; two daughters, Mrs. Buena (Bebe) Bone of Elberton and Mrs. Cliver (Sue) Ivester of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Cole of Miami, Fla., and Lester Cole of Lake City, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Burd of Hialeah, Fla., Mrs. Gladys Sanders of Jefferson and Mrs. Bonnie Powers of Decatur; a brother-in-law, Byron Ayers of Atlanta and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Louie Cole of Stone Mountain.
Funeral was Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. from the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Lord and Layman Willie Coker officiating.
Pallbearers were: Paul Worley, LeRoy Harris, William Tucker, Lamar Oliver, Jim Stonecypher and Julian Bowen.
Interment was in Stephens Memorial Gardens with Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
