A story in the Milwaukee Journal of 29 July 1937 tells the story of Louis untimely death after falling into Lake Michigan off the breakwater at McKinley Beach, while fishing with friends. He had become ill, fell off the breakwater. This was witnessed by his friends and a nearby watchman who immediately notified the Coast Guard. Louis was in the water about 7 minutes and despite diligent resuscitation attempts for 50 minutes, he died by drowning. He was a student at Boys Technical School. He was buried from St. Casimir Catholic Church.
