U.S. Congressman. Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he attended Southern Methodist University at Dallas and the University of Texas. During World War I, he served in the United States Army as a Private and was assigned to the Student's Army Training Corps. After the war, he engaged in the banking business (1921-25), graduated from Cumberland School of Law at Cumberland University, was admitted to the bar in 1927 and commenced the practice of law in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, (1931-32), an associate administrator of war bonds for the State of Tennessee, (1940-45) and a judge of Rutherford County, Tennessee, (1942-45). In 1945, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress, serving until 1947. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 86 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
