Shirley Barnes
Shirley M. Barnes of Eugene died April 29 of age-related causes. She was 85. A private family memorial service is planned for later.
She was born July 9, 1925, in Ashland to Fred and Serafina "Ruth" Rightenour Cushing. She married Richard Barnes on Dec. 4, 1942, in Medford; he died Jan. 14, 1989.
She attended Ashland public schools and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. She taught art classes in middle school and was a lifelong artist.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Simpson of Corvallis, Crystal "Sylvia" Barnes and Elizabeth Barnes, both of Eugene, and Sunny Israelson of Juneau, Alaska; a son, Jeffrey Barnes of Veneta; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
