RAYMONDVILLE, TX. — Robert Wayland Cole (Bob), 81, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011. He was born on February 27, 1930 in Muleshoe, Texas.
At the age of 3, Bob moved with his family to Willacy County where he resided most of his life. He attended schools in Sebastian and Lyford and at a very young age, left school to go to work to support his family. No stranger to hard work, he began his working career at 14 after his Father suffered a massive stroke and his older and only brother left home to serve in WWII. Bob later returned to school determined to earn his high school diploma and attend college. In 1948, he married his childhood sweetheart, Norma Wright and they began a family raising two daughters, Rebekah and Ginger.
He was employed for the majority of his life with Brown & Root and later at Mid States Pipe Fabricating, Inc. where he served as Vice President. He also worked for several years as a welding instructor at Texas State Technical Institute and was a life member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 823. Everyone who knew Bob was aware of his expertise as a welder/fabricator. Not so well known was his knowledge and skill with crafting fine metals into beautiful original jewelry, belt buckles and spurs for family and close friends. Bob also had a passion for hunting and spending time outdoors. He spent hours outside meditating and praying, feeling closest to God when surrounded by nature.
Bob will be most remembered for being an honorable, loyal man who deeply loved his family—best exemplified by his dedication and devotion to the care of his spouse of 63 years. During Bob's brief illness, his thoughts centered around concern for the care of the family he was leaving behind. However in his last days, in God's hands he placed his trust, and was overheard quietly saying, "I am going to be with the Lord."
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Norma; daughters, Rebekah Morrow (Clifford) and Ginger Kirsch (Ben Jr.); grandchildren, Stacie Lopez (Nat), Zane Kirsch, Stephanie Orozco (Shawn), Ross Morrow; and two great-grandchildren, Angelina Lopez and Payton Dison. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Morrow, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.B. and Aida Cole, brother Howard Cole, and sisters Marie Cole and Ruth Long.
Visitation with family is scheduled for Monday, April 25, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Raymondville.
Funeral services will be held at United Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services to follow at Raymondville Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Mark Uzepan officiating, assisted by Rev. John Grissom.
Serving as pallbearers are son-in-laws, Clifford Morrow and Ben Kirsch Jr., grandsons, Zane Kirsch, Ross Morrow, Nat Lopez and Shawn Orozco. Honorary pallbearers are Bob's dearest friends, Ashley Strader, Morris Morrow, Lynn Johnson, and David Osborne.
The family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy and comfort during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements are under the Direction of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 1157 West Hidalgo Avenue in Raymondville, TX.
