His obituary in the Greensboro News and Record, November, 1985, provides that he was a native of Guilford county, chairman of the board of Starr Electric of Greensboro, a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Corinthian Lodge No. 542 AF 7 AM, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Shriner and a member of Starmount Forest Country Club.
Surviving were listed as, wife, Katherine Blair Starr; son, John D. Starr of Greensboro; daughter Katherine Starr Brown of Asheville; sisters, Mrs. Margaret DeGrom, Mrs. Hazel Murray, and Mrs. Edna Lowdermilk of Greensboro; six grandchildren.
