Elzora Hubbell Channer

DECATUR -- Elzora Hubbell Channer, 99, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016.

She was born April 8, 1917 in a snow storm, in Bement, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Daisy (Long) Hubbell. Elzora was part of the original 7 that opened North Town Bank in October of 1956. She started her career there as a teller and worked her way up to assistant cashier. Elzora retired in December of 1982 after 26 years of faithful service.

Elzora was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Springfield, Decatur Quilters Guild, volunteered at DMH, and an associate sister of the Convent of the Sisters of the Holy Nativity Mother House of Fond du Lac, WI. She was a supporter of and made many blankets for Project Linus and designed the Channer’s Checkers quilt. Elzora also liked to sew, knit and crochet.

Elzora married Malcolm John Channer October 18, 1960 and he preceded her in death March 18, 1966. Also preceding her were her parents and two brothers, William Lincoln and Charles Warren Hubbell.

Elzora is survived by her niece, Ann Moore and great nephews: John and Michael Moore; special friends: Helen Mowbrey, Beverly Brown, Elizabeth Keith, Colleen Curtis and many other friends.

Following her wishes, her remains will be donated for anatomical study. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials in her name may be made to: DMH Hospice, 3122 Brettwood Circle, Decatur, IL 62526.
