Funeral for Frances Ellegood Griffin, 96, of Lawton, Oklahoma, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Al Potts, pastor, and the Rev. Terry Staggs, officiating.

Mrs. Griffin passed away on Friday, April 29th, 2011, at her home.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

She was born on December 30, 1914, in San Francisco, California, to Claude J. and Iva Clare (Richard) Ellegood. She lived in Lawton most of her life, where she attended and graduated from Lawton High School and Cameron College. She worked for the Social Security Administration for 20 years until her retirement on June 1, 1975. She married Jess D. Griffin on September 15, 1939, in Ozark, Arkansas.

Mrs. Griffin loved and supported the arts, she was a member of the Lawton Philharmonic, Community Concert, Friends of the Library and Friends of the Wichitas. She was a member and enjoyed attending plays at the Lawton Community Theatre. She also loved to travel and visited many places during her life. She enjoyed swimming, playing bridge, and supporting the Campfire Girls and Camp C'andy.

She was a long-time faithful member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Finance and Library Committees. She was also a member of the Tomlinson Sunday School Class, sang in the choir and played for the bell choir.

She is survived by her husband, Jess D. Griffin of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janice Wittenburg of the home, and Linda and Duke Ligon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her grandson, Christian Ligon of New York City, New York; two granddaughters, Kathy Wittenberg and Jack Butcher of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Tracy Staggs and her husband, Terry, of Orlando, Florida; her great grandchildren, Justin and Alexis Staggs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Helen Statler Conn and Florence Wade and two brothers, Donald Ellegood and Richard Ellegood.
